Question:I'm a casual runner (2.5 miles,17 mins, twice a week), and I know that
without a realistic target that's all I'll ever be. So I've been looking for
a training schedule to follow that would result in me being ready for a half
marathon after about six months. I've done a couple of web searches without
success. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Answer:
I think you'll find this helpful. Here is a beginner program.

He also has an advanced program at:

The Halhigdon program is quite good. You don't need to follow it
religiously. The main philosophy is to increase your long run to
near 13 miles just 2-3 weeks before the race. I recommend doing
long run during the weekend while continue your normal 2
additional runs during the weekdays. For me, my normal run is
half the approximate distance of the long run. It works fine so
far. I have finished 4 half marathons using this simple
schedule. Don't worry that you miss one or two normal runs. But
not to miss your long run, it's the key.
I strongly recommend all runners to check out www.kicksports.com and click on
all of the various sections, its about the best running related site I've ever
seen.
