Question:Has anyone run the Sugarloaf marathon in Eustis, Maine? If so, how is the
course? How many other people usually run? Typical weather?
Answer:
I've never run Sugarloaf, but I live in Maine, so I can tell you what I've
heard about the race from others. The course starts uphill for the first 3-4
miles, but most the course after that is a gradual downhill. The field is
usually small. Last year, there were 136 finishers (if I remember correctly,
there were also a lot of DNFs because it was an unseasonably warm day). The
winning time was 2:42 for men, 3:07 for women. The temperature is usually
quite reasonable at that time of year -- I'd guess the average race temperature
would be in the 50s.
I'm considering Sugarloaf for my first marathon attempt next year, so perhaps
I'll see you there if you decide to run.
