Question:Does anyone out there know a store or website that sells reflective(or glow
in the dark) running clothes for nightime running?
I have tried Big 5, Oshmans, Sportmart without luck. I am just looking for
a lightweight reflective jacket.
Answer:
http://www.roadrunnersports.com
or
http://www.rei.com/
An inexpensive method would be to get a lightweight jacket and get a reflective
vest at a local hardware store (check out the safety section).
If that doesn't float your boat then try a cycling store. Cyclists are a bit
more concerned with being seen by cars than runners and the stock is usually
better than a running store. Reflective gear is usually beyond the run of the
mill chain store because it doesn't sell in volume. Runners who are serious
about running and willing to run in the dark of night don't usually shop at
chain stores.
Check out Performance (a national chain of cycling stores), they have a
jacket for $37.50 made of with Illuminate. Illuminate is great because it
looks normal until headlights or even a flashlight hit it and then the whole
jacket reflects light. I have seen it good for several hundred feet with
car headlights.
I think the URL is www.performancebike.com
If you have a Galyans store close by they are currently featuring a
number of such items. You will need to ask about them as just a quick look
in normal light does not show anything special about them.
I also prefer a reflective vest instead of expensive reflective running
clothes. I only need one vest that I can combine depending on the wether
conditions with all running clothes I have.
Before I bought my vest (at about 13 EURO) I used a reflective belt. I do
not recommend using such a belt. There is only a small reflective area and
the belt always slips of my shoulder - very uncomfortable.
You can buy reflective tape at a fabric store, such as the JoAnn's chain.
I bought a jacket that I liked, and then I sewed reflective tape to it.
