Question:I'm looking for a new watch.
Anyone know of the watch that doesn't weigh a ton or look huge?
Answer:
Get real. Can ANYONE on this board run 1000m in 2:30?
Backwards you punk! (but then you'd miss your favorite view of vibrating
buttocks.)
try the timex ironman triathlon.
i've had it for a couple of years now and it's pretty good.
does come with some kind of a timer mode for intervals.
though, i've never used that feature before.
the one i have can store 100 laps, has 5 alarms, and cost me about $45.
it's quite light and gives out light if you press a button (indiglo).
the indiglo thing also works if you flick your wrist.
doesn't look too huge either.
timex also makes a GPS based running watch.
don't know anything about that one.
It was just an example! One that any compeitive college half-miler should be
able to handle. The sunject of the post was "what's the best watch?"
I think you can pick up the timex ironman triathlon at wal-mart for slightly
under $29 now. I also have one and am very pleased although I don't use all
the features while running. I have used the splits during time trials at late
model stock car dirt track race events. Anyway its a nice piece for the price.
That one (or it's successor) is still around: Casio Lap50. I'm pretty
pleased with it
I recorded all of my college track workouts on one of those Casios. Then
I replaced the battery and killed it by swimming in the Mediteranean as it
was no longer watertight.
Anyway, you should probably get one of the Nike watches. They cost an arm
and a leg but they can store intervals as lap times or separate run times.
As far as I could tell from fiddling with them in the store and trying to
read the directinos, the Timex watches can only do a single series of lap
times. The Nikes also have a nice timer feature that is good for
fartleks and might allow you to set alarms as you describe above.
I couldn't find the Casios anywhere, but if they are still on the market,
they are probably a better bargain than the Nikes. The Nike does have a
very good light and a lot of different alarm settings that are quite
audible.
if i understand you correctly, you're talking about "segments"
when you refer to separate run times. e.g. if i go on a run today
and do 5 laps, i can store them in one segment. tomorrow if i
go on a run and do 8 laps, i can store them in a different segment.
I had a 30 split Casio many years ago that was the best watch I ever
owned. Of course they don't make them anymore.
I recently bought the fairly new 50 split Casio, the very favourite in our
group and a real bargain (40 Euro) condidering the features it offers. But
then this ist germany and it is not for sale in the US? It would be the
Casio Module No. 2038.
I saw a guy wearing one last week while I was running. If I had had my atm or
wallet I'd have offered him whatever he would have asked for the watch. Hmmmm I
could put mine up on e-bay if I bear to part with it.
Tell me where he runs and I'll get Uncle Guido to make him
a deal he can't refuse.
Someone posted( I ate the post) that the Casio made a 50 split
and is marketed in Europe. I looked to the web page and the
watched but found the data useless as far keeping splits.
I want a simple watch that keeps wall time and saves some laps/times
over one or more days. The extra crap that the Timex et al give
is useless for my needs. KISS - Keep it simple stupid for watches.
