Question:anyone ever run this marathon? any input about it...the course, weather,
other details?
Answer:
I did it two years ago and I though it was great. It was a fairly flat
course. Small group of runners (I would guess about 1000). There
wasn't alot of crowd support (none in the first few miles-quite a bit
toward the end). It was nothing like Boston, New York, Chicago, or even
Columbus. But I liked it. Very well organized. They bus you out to
the start (north of town) and you finish in a park on the lake front.
The weater was perfect the year I ran it. About 50 to start and low
60's at the end (the end for me was 3.5 hours). Low humidity.
Just a note...We have been having a fairly warm late summer...Hopefully it
won't continue, but we HAVE been running 7-10 degrees above normal for
this time of year...
Gentle rolling with a couple of small hills in the first five miles. Then
basically flat to about 24 miles. Downhill for maybe one half mile then
flat to the finish at the art center on the lake front.
Weather both times was very close to perfect. Started with clear skies and
low humidity, temps in 40's, 60's at finish. There were about 1500
starters.
Very well organized, great food and beverages at finish line. Would
reccomend it and do again if it weren't for nagging injuries.
This year will be my 3rd Milwaukee marathon, being a point to point
marathon heading south the wind is usually at your back the entire way,
temps are usually cool , has been in the 40s at the start and warms up
to the 60s, while there are not alot of spectators the course goes
through tree lined streets, areas of high priced homes, cornfields and
the lake to welcome you home, in the past water stops had cups with
covers and straws! Basicly down hill I have my PR on the course of 2:45
which is about 3 to 5 minutes faster than other marathons I have run, as
with any Milwaukee event there is always plenty of beer available to
celebrate your finish.
