Question:
1.I m a newbie to cross country running. Would you think I need a pair of
trail running shoes for these races? I have a pair of Mizuno Wave Spacer
and felt a little unstable. Please advise.
2. Hi...I've been asking about Fox Hunting alot lately. And heres my big question
can Fox Hunting help in Cross-country training. Can the fast pace gallops and
guick jumps help a horse being trained for 3-day eventing?
Answer:1.Not trail shoes, but cross country spikes.
They are similar to track spikes except they are rubberized where there
would be a track plate. They are also useful for indoor track as racing
flats when you remove the spikes.
You need much less padding in a cross country racing shoe, by virtue of the
softer surface.
2.In my opinion there is no better training for the X-country phase of 3DE than
fox-hunting (or better drag-hunting where the foxes don't have to pay the price).
It teaches a horse to gallop boldly across fences, deal with unexpected situations
and improves stamina and strength....also it's great fun.
Fox-hunting has been the basis of training for most of the top English event-horses, who often are able to progress very quickly through the lower levels of eventing
because of several years on the hunting field.
