Question:
1.I'm trying to get info regarding the San Diego
Half Marathon to be held January 20th. I have
an advertisement and an entry form, but some
very critical information is left out. Where is the start/finish? The entry form
says Carlsbad, but that's not very specific.
Is it next to Legoland or the Palomar airport?
2.BTW - It is two days after that 1:36:30 effort in the half marathon and I
>still hurt like hell! What does a marathon feel like? What does an IRONMAN
>feel like? Not sure I'll enjoy that part of the sport very much. The kids
>thought it was funny that I was hobbling around yesterday, but continuing
>today they think is dumb. Me too, I guess, but what are you going to do,
>since it's so much fun to abuse yourself?
Answer:1.(http://www.sdmarathon.com/)
The Marathon starts and finishes in Plaza Camino Real Shopping Center
which is off of Hwy. 78 and El Camino Real. Race start and ends there
and is also where the Expo will be and the pick up for numbers, etc.
2.The dreaded Frankenstein syndrome, greatly in evidence
following the CA Int'l Marathon in early Dec. and experienced firsthand by
yours truly. Not pretty. Not fun. Not looking forward to repeating that
experience. Took several days to subside. And it wasn't from chafing, either.
Tris taught me the value of Vaseline well. I'm pretty sure it's just the
effect of a massive lactic buildup. You know that point where you felt like:
"I could stop here. I really don't feel like doing this anymore?" Well, I think
it's at that point that one's fate is sealed if one continues. As far as I can tell, the only
remedy is more training, more endurance, or slower pace. Lovely choices, wot?
2.In my experience (1 marathon, 1-2 0.5 marathons, 2 0.5 FeMans, and
2 Ironmans), the Ironman is really NOT that much worse than a marathon.
In fact, I think I recovered about the same or slightly FASTER
from the Ironman than a marathon. I think this is because we
are eating and drinking so much in the Ironman that the "cellular"
damage is moderated somewhat.
1/2 FeMans are probably just a little worse than a 1/2 Marathon in
terms of post-race soreness/recovery.
