Question:
I am a beginning runner. Unfortunately, my left foot is about one 1/2
size larger than my right foot, so finding sneakers (or shoes of any kind,
for that matter) that both fit well is a challenge for me. My question:
what is better in the long-term for running -- getting the 1/2 size higher
to compensate for my larger left foot (right has about 1/2 to 3/4 inch space
above toe) or should I go with the lower size and deal with my left big toe
slightly hitting the top of the sneaker? In the past, I think I've always
gone with the lower size -- so the higher size feels a little awkward to
me -- but I'm sure I'd get used to it. I'm just worried that maybe the
sneaker will break-in and stretch out in a couple of months, causing the
right sneaker to be even more loose than it is now. Is there a general
theory about this? In a perfect world, how much space should I have above
the toe to give enough wiggle room for running? Thanks for any advice,
Answer:Most people who come into our shop have this same "problem" (but the funny
thing is almost all of them think they're the only one who's built that
way). If it's only a half size difference just get a size that fits the
larger foot and the smaller foot will be fine.
Go to a specialty running store that carries Brooks and you will be able to
purchase different size shoes for each foot at a small upcharge( cheaper
than buying 2 pair) I've done this a number of times for a couple of my
customers.
